Week At A Glance- Oct. 19-23

For the next while our focus will be on overall fitness. The students will be working on a variety of fitness stations everyday as their warm up such as jumping jacks, sit ups, mountain climbers and crab walk or planks.

For the activity we will be learning and practicing jumping rope. Jumping rope is a great way to improve balance, coordination and reflexes as well as the students cardio endurance.

This week we focused on the basics: How to hold a skipping rope and turn it. Every students is at a different level so it never hurts to start from scratch.

Rope cues:

"Hands down low, and turn the rope slow." (PE Specialist)

Below is a set of tricks the students will attempt to practice through out this unit.

This week we have been focusing on building our physical stamina. Students have been training for the Terry Fox Run and doing a fantastic job! We introduced a few cooperative games such as Captain's Coming and Cat and Mouse.

After each class students are being asked to do a quick self-assessment on how they thought they did in class that day.

Terry Fox Run

This year is the 40th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope and is proud to be continuing the legacy of one of our greatest heroes. Please join us and support this wonderful cause by donating to: http://www.terryfox.ca/KennethDTaylorSchool. Together, we can all make a difference! #terryfoxschoolruns @terryfoxfoundation

All donations will be going through the above link. We are not asking students to bring in money this year and there will not be an assembly. Online donations will continue up until October 5th.

We are hoping to raise $2,000 this year. If that goal is reached Mr. Faunt and Mr. Belcher will put a pie on their own faces because they love to eat pie. Students will be able to watch this virtually through a link. Let’s see if we can make their dream to eat pie come true.

Week at a Glance September 14-18

Students have been enjoying doing Physical Education outside. For the past couple of weeks, students have been practicing locomotor skills such as running, skipping, galloping, jogging. They have been learning to move in an open space making sure they are changing their speeds and directions.

Frisbee Fun!!!

In the next few weeks, students will be learning about proper frisbee techniques with throwing, catching, and accuracy. They followed specific throwing cues of point, cross, step, flick.

Fingers crossed that the nice weather continues so we can continue to enjoy the outdoors.

Note: Between each cohort class, the equipment is properly sanitized and is ready for the next class.
